Study reveals child trafficking on the Volta Lake in Ghana

The Director of Mobilization and International Justice Mission, Leonard Kobina Ackon, says assessment conducted by the Mission on the Volta Lake has revealed that majority of children working with the fishermen are 10 years and below.

Speaking at the Official launch of NGOs Against Child Trafficking in Accra, he enumerated some negative effects of child trafficking as lose of self esteem among others.


Child trafficking is one of the biggest issues affecting the world especially Ghana, In June of 2009, the USA Department of Trafficking in Persons Report released a full report documenting at least 30,000 children working as porters, fishermen and others primarily being used for sexual tourism.
