The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on President Akufo-Addo to order the re-opening of Radio Gold and Radio XYZ.
The Party recommends the use of the courts to enforce regulations, instead of actions which in turn harass and intimidate journalists and critical institutions.
In a statement, the Director of Communications of the NDC, Kakra Essamuah said the closure is intended to curtail press freedom and intimidate critical voices and institutions.
It accused government of carrying out certain actions that have uncharacteristically reduced Ghana’s press freedom rankings since assuming office in 2017.
It is therefore urgent for President Akufo-Addo to respect the constitutional rights of all to free speech and order the re-opening of the two stations.
