14 confirmed dead in gory accident at Kyekyewere

Fourteen persons, including a nine-year-old boy, have been confirmed dead in a gory accident at Kyekyewere, near Suhum on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.

The accident, which occurred at five o’clock this morning, involved a Burkina Faso bound  Cargo Truck, a Bus with registration number GT 4997-20 and an STC Bus, also with registration number GE 8131-16.

According to eyewitnesses, the tyre of the Cargo Truck burst and veered off its side of the road, and hit the two buses which were in the opposite direction.

The Officer in Charge of Operation at the Ghana National Fire Service Station at Suhum, John Koffie, confirmed, that eleven people died on the spot, while three others died later at the Suhum Government Hospital.

He said several others sustained various degrees  of injury and have been sent to the Suhum and Nsawam Government Hospitals.
