Ashanti: Minister of Lands, REGSEC hold closed door meeting on illegal mining

Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has held a closed door meeting with the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to devise new strategy and approach in fighting illegal mining called galamsey in the country.

Briefing the media after the closed door meeting, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, said the meeting with security chiefs was to get firsthand information and how together with the security personnel they can deal with it head-on.

Government after dissolving the Inter Ministerial Committee Against Illegal Mining ceded their mandate to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to help deal with the activities of illegal mining.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah said issues of illegal mining and land litigation are of great concern to him as a regional minister.
