The much-anticipated spilling of excess water in the Bui Dam takes place today.
Speaking to Radio Ghana on the issue, Chief Executive of the Bui Power Authority, Fred Oware said a lot of education is going on to undertake the controlled spillage from today till the next 5 or ten days.
Mr. Oware said the opening of the flood gates to safeguard the structural integrity of the dam and also allow for effective power generation.
He said the action is being undertaken because the reservoir is projected to reach elevation levels of a hundred and eighty-two point five zero today.
The statement assured the public that water discharged from the dam will flow into the Volta Lake to enhance power generation at the Akosombo and Kpong generating stations.
The Bui Generating Station currently dispatches power from two generating units with the third under comprehensive maintenance.
The maximum operating level of the generating station is a hundred and eighty-three and a minimum operating level of a hundred and sixty-eight.
