The Kotoka International Airport officially opens Tuesday, September 1.
About 1,200 passengers are expected to arrive from other countries.
With the number of persons anticipated to arrive, airport Health workers are likely to be overwhelmed with the conduct of health checks and other protocols at the place.
However, at a media briefing in Accra, Managing Director of the Ghana Airport Company, Yaw Kwakwa, allayed fears of delays at the Airport.
He said there are about 70 sample taking positions and it will take only 20 seconds to take a specimen.
He emphasised that a passenger will spend a maximum of 30 minutes to go through all other checks and protocols before boarding an Aircraft or after disembarking.
Meanwhile, a Deputy Health Minister, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye has defended government’s decision to charge passengers arriving at the Kotoka International Airport $150 for Covid-19 test.
He said government assessed the global situation before arriving at the cost.
Passengers are expected to have a negative PCR test obtained not less than 72 hours before arriving in the country.
Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye, highlighted measures that will be implemented at the Airport from Tuesday, September 1. For those who test positive for COVID-19, he said the Health Officials will take over to assist the person through immigration so as to prevent further contamination.
The affected person will be put into a holding room and later sent to the Ga East hospital for retrial after which the necessary protocols will be administered.
He said children under five will not be tested due to their low risk and Ghanaians who travel for short visits will be excluded from obtaining a negative PCR test.
