Asantehene, other State Officials take COVID-19 vaccine

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu and his wife, Lady Julia, on Tuesday, March 2, took the COVID-19 vaccine publicly at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

This is to bolster public confidence and encourage all to participate in the vaccination exercise.

The Asantehene did not make any statement after the exercise. His jab was to officially commence the inoculation exercise in the Ashanti Region.

150,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine are to be given out under the first phase of the National COVID-19 Vaccination exercise.

Clad in an all-white cloth to signify “Ekradware da” or “cleansing of the soul”, Otumfuo Osei Tutu was delighted throughout the short ceremony.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer for the Food and Drugs Authority, Madam Delese Darko, has assured the general public that her outfit has undertaken a vigorous evaluation of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Speaking to GBC News, Madam Darko emphasised that the vaccine is safe for use without any side effects like erectile dysfunction or infertility, adding that, the FDA will not compromise on its lawful mandate.

She announced that an additional two vaccines from China and India are undergoing testing by the FDA.

Former President of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr.Kwabena Opoku Adusei appealed to the public to avail themselves of the COVID vaccination as it will boost their immune system.
