‘Attacks by mentally ill persons linked to lack of funds for Mental Health Authority’

CEO of the Mental Health Authority, Dr. Akwesi Osei says the death of an eight month old pregnant woman Alimatu Karim at Nkwakaw has come as a shock to the authority.

The victim was abducted and killed by a mentally challenged man who was subsequently lynched by residents and set ablaze.

Dr. Osei talking to Ibrahim Kwarteng on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, ‘Behind the News’, said frequent attacks on citizens by mentally ill persons is as a result of lack of funds from government for the Authority to rid the streets off mentally challenged persons.
