According to a report, there were gunshots in the early hours of Tuesday, January 31, 2023, in Bawku during the curfew hours due to the chieftaincy conflict in Bawku.

In an interview on GTV’s Breakfast show with Peter Agengre, the Upper East Regional Correspondent says that, as at Friday, February 3, 2023, the situation in Bawku is calmer as schoolchildren and workers have returned to their normal business and the military is ensuring peace and calm in the region.

According to Peter Agengre, the Regional Minister of Upper East Region held a meeting yesterday and gave the assurance of moving to Bawku to hold a meeting with stakeholders and the people to find a lasting peace to the dispute in Bawku.

He also mentioned a press conference that will be held this morning to address the media on the Bawku incident, which happened this week.

Early on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, there were gunshots in which two people were reported to have been shot, allegedly by the military, because they disobeyed the curfew rules laid down in Bawku.

The military says the shooting was not done on purpose, but the indigents rather engaged them. People were reporting fleeing from their homes due to the shootings. The curfew in Bawku is as a result of a chieftaincy dispute between the Kusasis and the Mamprusis.
