Parliament was thrown into a chaotic scene when the Ministry of Works and Housing noted that it has no jurisdiction over construction of the controversial National Cathedral.

When asked to answer questions about the construction of the National Cathedral, Deputy Minister Abdulai Abanga and MP for Binduri claimed that his ministry had nothing to do with it and that “the question should be directed to the appropriate ministry.”

MPs from the Minority side were surprised to hear that the Housing Ministry had no say and, therefore, could not answer questions related to the Cathedral on the floor of Parliament.

The Order Paper for Thursday 17th November 2022 advertised three questions standing in the name of MP for Lower Manya Krobo, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi related to construction of the National Cathedral.

The Second Deputy, Adrew Amoaku Asiamah, who was preceding, pleaded with the House to give him one week to communicate with them, the appropriate Ministry responsible for the National Cathedral.

The three questions are reproduced below:

*1320. Mr Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi (Lower Manya Krobo): To ask the Minister for Works and Housing the current state of the National Cathedral.

#1321. Mr Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi (Lower Manya Krobo): To ask the Minister of Works and Housing how many judges are still being housed in hotels as a result of the demolition of their bungalows to pave way for the construction of the National Cathedral.

#1322. Mr Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi (Lower Manya Krobo): To ask the Minister for Works and Housing if all private persons whose properties were destroyed at the site for the National Cathedral have been adequately compensated where they qualify.
