Mr. Duker who is also the MP for Tarkwa-Nsuaem noted that the Community Mining Scheme employs a more safer method of harvesting gold than galamsey.

He appealed to the Traditional Leaders and  Community to support the government’s fight against the galamsey canker and help nip it in the bud.

The Community Mining Scheme is an initiative,(CMS), of the government to ensure that safer mining methods are employed by miners so as to prevent the destruction of the environment. The CMS is a good way of mining gold so that Ghana’s resources will be protected.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Ahafo Ano North District, Martina Appiah Nyantekyi said the scheme is a welcoming development for the Municipality and warned against illegal mining.

She stressed that the scheme could lead to a turnaround in the economic fortunes of the community, hence requiring the support of persons and institutions within the Municipality.
