COVID-19: Bureau of Public Safety calls for total lockdown

The Bureau of Public Safety is calling on the government to as a matter of urgency, to lockdown the entire country in the wake of the spread of the coronavirus in ten regions.

A statement signed by its Director of Research and Advocacy, Etornam Korda, observed with concern, that any delay in a total lockdown of the country, may erode the gains made to stem the spread of the virus.

It said, “if the President and the Response Team do not take further bold and radical steps, all the good efforts applied in achieving results will come to naught and the entire country will be consumed by the deadly virus”.

It urged the government to impose a 21-day lockdown across all sixteen regions, gear up tracing and testing capacity and effort.

It said the government should intensify education and effective monitoring of traced contacts and suspected cases, to minimize frequent escapes from isolation centres and enhance compliance to medical advice.

The Bureau also urged the government to expand testing sites across all the regions within the shortest possible time.

It commended President Akufo Addo for the various interventions to alleviate the suffering of the masses and shocks to organizations and called on all citizens to support the government in the fight against the coronavirus by adhering to the directives and health protocols in place.
