The Ghana Education Service has debunked reports that the death of the final year student of Gwiraman Senior High School in the Western Region, Nathaniel Yankey was as a result of the mishandling of the students by the school authorities.

A statement issued by the PRO of GES, Cassandra TwumAmpofoexplained that Gwiraman SHS is an E-Block community day school however some parents including parents of the deceased have hired their own private hostels for their wards where they reside and commute to and from school on a daily basis.

The hostels are run by private individuals and not by the school authorities.

It indicated that the deceased left the hostel for his parent’s house when he felt unwell and the school was notified.

Later, the management of the School called to check on him but was told he had passed on.

The statement assured parents that all efforts are being made to ensure the safety of Teaching and Non-Teaching staff as well as students on campus.

It implored the media to be decorous in their reportage to avoid creating fear and panic among parents.
