The Deputy Chief Executive in Charge of Engineering and Operations at Volta River Authority has hinted that some fake victims have maneuvered their way to receiving the relief items, hence delaying the disbursement of items to victims affected by the Akosombo dam spillage which started on October 15, 2023.
Addressing the concerns of quick disbursement of relief items to the affected victims of the flood, the deputy chief Executive, Mr Edward Ekow Obeng cited that there were false victims of the flood who have taken advantage of the situation to come in for some of the relief items at the expense of the affected victims.
“There are people who are not affected by the situation but also come in to collect some of these relief items which NADMO have identified it that these people are not affected at all,” he said
Mr Obeng also applauded the proactiveness of the disaster management agency, NADMO for their agility on the ground to ensure that affected victims of the spillage a catered for.
In a collaborative effort to help affected victims and displaced persons affected with the dam spillage, Mr Obeng stated that the Ministry of Information has set up an emergency call centre to add victims in distress and alleviate their plight. Affected victims can call 311.
