The 11th edition of the West African Clean Energy and Exhibition, WACEE’23 came to a successful end on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The two-day conference brought together diplomats and industry players from the energy and sustainability sectors.

In an address, the Deputy Minister of Energy, Andrew Egyapa Mercer stated that Ghana as a nation has chalked some pivotal success in the field of renewable energy. He mentioned that, as the world faces unwavering climate change circumstances, Ghana keeps making strides to attain a transformative sustainable energy future.

“Over the years, Ghana has made significant strides in the field of renewable energy. Our investment in solar, wind and hydroelectric power projects has been commendable. Ghana has embarked on a transformative journey towards a sustainable energy future,” he said.

He further mentioned that the country aims to increase the proportion of renewable energy in the national energy mix. He called on participants of the conference to forge and strengthen partnerships that will help drive clean energy and a safe environment for both Ghana and the world at large.

“Ghana aims to increase the proportion of renewable energy in the national energy mix from 42.5MV to 1,363.63 MV. Currently, the figure stands at 180 MV representing 3.3%of Ghana’s energy mix,” he added.

Delegations from other West-African countries joined in the conference to share and contribute to how the prioritization of clean and renewable energy can drive the sustainability agenda and also promote safer environments.
