Gov’t takes delivery of more than 1.2 million doses of Moderna vaccines from US Government

Government has taken delivery of more than 1.2 million Moderna Vaccines from the US Government under the COVAX facility.

This is the single largest consignment of Vaccines Ghana has received so far towards its vaccination drive.

UNICEF Country Representative to Ghana, Anne-Claire Dufay received the vaccines at the Kotoka International Airport, in Accra.

The donations are part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s global efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at a ceremony in Accra, US Ambassador to Ghana, Stephanie Sullivan expressed the American Government’s commitment to address the immediate and medium-term effects of the pandemic on all sectors of the economy though out the world.

She said the US stands with the Government of Ghana in its fight to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The Deputy Minister of Health, Alhaji Asei Mahama Seini, who received the consignments on behalf of Government was grateful to the US for the vaccines.

He said the vaccines will boost Government’s vaccination efforts.

Another 1.3 million Pfizer Vaccines are also expected in the country by the end of this month as government races to achieve herd immunity by inoculating at least 60 percent of the population by the end of the year.

Yesterday, Government took delivery of 244,800 doses of Johnson and Johnson vaccines under the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) platform.
