Members of “We Be Citizens Movement” made up of more than 36 CSO’s and individuals will be meeting the Auditor General (AG) on Friday, 9th September, 2022 on the way forward over their concerns about the Auditor-General’s inability to use his powers of surcharge and disallowance.

The Director of Advocacy and Policy Engagement at the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), Dr. Emmanuel Kojo Asante, speaking on ‘Behind the News, said the meeting will help the Auditor General surcharge persons found to have misappropriated funds.

Dr. Asante who described yesterday’s protest as a success, noted, that they were able to send a strong message across to the Auditor General.

According to him, the Auditor General’s refusal to exercise his powers of surcharging and disallowance in his reports since 2019 is a matter of worry as it is encouraging impunity within state agencies and institutions.
