A 52-year-old former staff of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), who resigned from the Amanorkrom Office in 2022, Abraham Asare, has been arrested by the police at Larteh in the Akuapem North Municipality in the Eastern Region for stealing 23 pieces of eight inches of ductile iron pipes.

The Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer of the GWCL, Kwadwo Daase, who revealed this in an interview with GBC in Koforidua, noted that the pipes are part of an existing active distribution main line supplying water to the residents of Larteh.

He said that upon receiving a distress call, the police followed up to meet Asare, who was stationed in the Amanorkrom Office of the company, and his accomplices loading the pipes into a KIA truck around 6:30 p.m. on December 12, 2023.

The cost of one eight-inch ductile iron pipe is approximately ₵13,000, so the total cost of the items is ₵299,000.

Mr Daase noted that the company has been confronted with numerous cases of meter theft, the removal of metallic covers from its chambers, and the theft of electric cable from its plants in recent times.

He therefore urged the public to report anyone they suspect is indulging in any act that will discredit the company to the police for prompt action.
