The Interior Minister, Mr. Henry Quartey, has assured personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service of the government’s continued effort to solve their hanging challenges.

Mr. Henry made these statements during his first ever working visit to the Immigration Service after his appointment as the sector Minister.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Quartey served in the capacity of Deputy Minister of the Interior to the immediate Past Minister, Ambrose Derry.

The visit was to acquaint himself with the Service operations and the situation on the ground as part of preparations for the general election.

He detailed some remarkable developments that the current government, under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo, has chalked for the Service within the period from 2017 to 2023.

The achievements ranged from retooling and enhancement of Human resources, infrastructure development, border management, Digitalisation and some codes of ethics that guide the operations and performance of the service.

He also touched on the Immigration Service strategic plan, which aims at expanding border management, contributing to the prevention of transnational crime, complying with migration laws, and ensuring the efficient and effective management of resources deployed to the service.

Acknowledging that there are still some hanging challenges that the Service is encountering, Mr. Henry Quartey assured that government is working assiduously and stays committed to finding reasonable ways to ensure the challenges are curbed.

“Government is aware of the challenges faced by the Service in the areas of logistics, office and residential accommodation, among others. Government is therefore committed to finding reasonable and realistic means of solving these challenges so that Officers will continuously avail themselves to manage and protect the borders of  Ghana,” he said.

He further urged that personnel continue their duties professionally to enhance security at the various borders.

“I urge you to continue to perform your duties professionally, effectively, and efficiently to protect Ghana’s borders to ensure peace and security in the country,” he added.
