Following the storm surge that hit residents of Agavedzi and Salakope in the Ketu South District of the Volta Region, there are calls on the government to fast-track the construction of the sea defense wall. The District Director of NADMO in the Ketu South District, Paul Allosodey said the Government should continue with work on the defense wall.

Also, relocation must be considered as an option. Mr. Allosodey however noted that since the incident on Sunday, the Regional Office is yet to receive relief items. He spoke to Kafui Dey on the GTV Breakfast Show.

Responding to the NADMO District Director, a Governance Expert, Eric Oduro Osae expressed disappointment at the attitude of the Director and advised him to ”sit up”.

”The Regional Director should put in measures to resolve issues rather than wait on national officers”, he said.

Dr. Oduro Osae called for effective decentralization within these institutions.

While condemning the lackadaisical attitude of the District Director, a Lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, said he believes ”lack of resources at the national level is causing the delay”, in reaching out to the victims. He called on authorities to discourage people from Sand Winning.
