A Psychologist and the Women Leader of the Ghana Academy of Muslim Professionals (GAMP), Hajia Asmau Ayub, has called on Muslim women to come together and support each other for national development.

She said it was important women appreciated their individual differences in their bid to support each other to change the negative narrative that ‘women are their own enemies’.

Hajia Asmau made the call at the fourth edition of GAMP’s annual ‘Sisters Forum’ in Accra on the theme; “Balance for Better”.

The forum was to brainstorm on pertinent issues that affect the Muslim community (Ummah).

The Psychologist, speaking on the topic “Women Supporting Women, the Power to Grow”, said women were endowed with different capabilities and therefore it was important that the few successful ones pulled the rest along by giving them the support they required to develop.

“Come forth as women and ask how you can be of help to the other. It is important to create this support system,” she stated.

She called on the women to fight the stereotyping as Muslims, adding, “you cannot declare yourself as successful if your success is not connected to other women’s success”.

She urged Muslim women to become mentors, supporting financially, through recommendations among others to close the gap and make each other better for the growth of their communities.

Hajia Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, a Lawyer, also speaking on the topic “Personal Development Before and After Marriage” urged women to ensure development at every stage of their lives no matter the challenges.

She said for women to be able to develop there was the need for one to have a vision, plan, improve on the planning process, record development to reflect at a later date, review the plans and learn from the previous.

Hajia Halimah said “One cannot find true fulfillment from outside yourself, everything depends on you” and therefore spouses, children, doubts, fear, lack of focus should not be an obstacle to women after marriage.

She advised that women must know that their actions and inactions could have an impact on their marriage but this should not stop their personal growth.

Hajj Yakubu Anderson, the President of the GAMP, encouraged women to engage in initiatives that would enhance development in the country.

He also advised the Muslim Ummah to come out in their numbers to engage in the upcoming district elections and elect into office the right candidates who would bring development.
