Farmers in the Northern Region are expressing surprise about the continuous rainfall during this harvesting season, a situation they say has not been experienced in the past six years.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, Deputy Director of the Savannah Agriculture Project, Dr. Roger Kanton said farmers now find it difficult to harvest their crops because of the persistent rains.

He predicted bumper harvest especially in maize, millet, cowpeas and sorghum.

Dr. Kanton was not happy about the lack of political will and commitment to either harvest excess rainwater or dig dams to generate energy and irrigation to increase food production.

He said government cannot do it all and asked for support from the private sector .
