Embrace digital transformation to enhance productivity and efficiency - Prez Akufo-Addo urges public sector

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged the workers in the public sector to embrace digital transformation to catch up with the current global digital revolution to increase productivity, efficiency and performance.

The President was speaking at Kwahu-Nkwatia in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region during the 11th Annual Conference of Chairpersons of Governing Boards and Councils, Chief Directors and Chief Executives of the Ghana Public Services.

The 11th Annual Conference which was on the theme “Repositioning Ghana’s Public Sector to Embrace Digital Transformation for better efficiency in the midst of Global Economic Challenges” brought together the Chairpersons of Governing Boards and Councils, Chief Directors and Chief Executives of the Ghana Public Services to interact with the President Nana Akufo-Addo and also to take stock of their performance of the previous year and the way forward.

The conference also allowed members to share ideas with each other and deliberate on how best they can work together to achieve high performance in the public sector.

Addressing the conference, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo noted that it is imperative in this digital era to embrace digital transformation in the public sector to harness the power of digital transformation to enhance productivity in the public sector.

He hinted that digital transformation holds the key to unlocking the doors of efficiency and transparency in the public sector. President Akufo-Addo reiterated that his government is committed to investing in digital infrastructure and connectivity to bridge the digital divide to ensure that every Ghanaian has access to affordable and reliable Internet service.

The Chairman of the Public Services Commission, Prof. Victor Kwame Agyeman, ESQ. mentioned that the Ghana Public Service is one of the best in the world. He stated that though the public sector is performing well, there is the need to institute digital technology in the performance of their duties. Prof. Agyeman noted that the theme was chosen because of the need for a paradigm shift from the way public service operates in the country.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong also spoke about the need for everyone to embrace digital transformation in their various organizations adding that as a result of digitalization, most of the local government services are operating in a paperless system which is helping to ensure efficiency and performance in the local government sector.
