The Small Scale Miners Association says the ban on its activities has done more harm than good to operators and the Ghanaian economy.

Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, “Talking Point”, on Sunday, the General Secretary of the Association, Godwin Armah said members have lost about 621 million dollars since the ban was imposed by government, adding that one million people have been affected by the ban.

Mr. Armah said government should have segregated the operators before imposing the ban instead of a blanket ban which has affected many livelihoods.

For his part, the Project Cordinator at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Dr. Isaac Bonsu Karikari explained that funding is the reason for the indefinite postponement of the roadmap.

He announced that the World Bank will in next few weeks disbursed three million dollars to conduct baseline studies after which the ban on small scale mining will be lifted .
