36 students receive President’s Independence Day awards

Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has presented awards to 36 students who excelled in the 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination.

He charged the students to remain focused, nurture their talents, be disciplined and strive to attain higher laurels.

The Vice President announced that a reviewed JHS and SHS Curriculum will soon be outdoored to meet changing trends. He also gave the assurance that government is working assiduously to build infrastructure that will accommodate students as the Free SHS continues to yield positive results stressing that the double track system will soon be eliminated.

The President’s Independence Day Awards since its inception in 1993 seeks to recognise and reward academic excellence.

Scholarships have been provided to young brilliant students selected from public schools based on their performance in the BECE including students who are visually or hearing impaired.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia said government has been working, in the last three years, to ensure that knowledge and skills become the backbone of the economy.

He intimated that the various reforms in the educational sector are all geared towards improving the human capital.

Dr Mahamud Bawumiah explained that the reviewed curriculum will provide students with an education to make them competitive on both the national and global stage.

A Minister of State in Charge of Tertiary Education, Prof. Kwasi Yankah commended the teachers who continue to play a key role in nurturing the students to excel.

A Representation of the school children took turns to present a message to government in some Ghanaian languages.

Each student will receive a ¢10,000.00, a Samsung Tablet, Nestlé products, a crystal plaque, assorted books and a citation.
