The Students Representative Council, SRC, of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST), has set aside GHC 50,000 to pay part of the fees for a number of students who have paid more than 50% of their fees. This follows the deferment of more than 6,000 students by the Management of KNUST for their inability to pay their school fees.

Speaking on ”Behind the News”, President of KNUST SRC, Michael Abuah said as a students body the SRC is worried about the plight of the affected students, some of whom are needy. He called on other philanthropists to come to the aid of the students.

Speaking about the issue, the National President of NUGS, Dennis Appiah Larbi, asked the government to move to the rescue of the students, especially those on the Students Loan Scheme. He appealed to the Management of KNUST to attach a human face to the issue.

Public Relations Officer of KNUST, Dr. Norris Bekoe maintained Management of the University has been lenient with the affected students as they were given enough time to make the payment. He asked parents to take a cue from the current situation at the university and follow up on the welfare of their children at the University.

He said more than 2,300 out of the total number of affected students are needy students who have been offered bursaries, but, yet to reflect in their accounts.
