Legal battle hits Ketu South ahead of District Level Elections

Some citizens of Aflao Traditional Area have secured an interim injunction against the Electoral Commission not to conduct elections at Duta Electoral Area over the validity of Candidates.

Statement dated 18th December, 2023 issued and signed by one Kelvin Agborbia for and on behalf of the petitioners claimed they filed a Motion Exparte for an interim injunction to restrain the Electoral Commission from having anything to do with the conduct of the District Level Elections in the Duta Electoral Area on the 19th day of December, 2023.

The statement which purported to be informing general public especially  all registered  voters in Duta Electoral Area,  all  citizens of Duta home and abroad and all residents within the Duta Electoral Area said they have successfully filed a Petition against the Electoral Commission and some four candidates in the District Level Elections in the Duta Electoral Area.

According to the statement, the High Court, Ho presided over by His Lordship Yaw Owoahene –Acheampong graciously granted the Motion Exparte and restrained the Electoral Commission, its assigns, workmen, etc. from having anything to do with the conduct of the District Level Elections in the Duta Electoral Area on the 19th day of December, 2023. The Order shall be valid for ten (10) days.

“We humbly write to notify the  public especially all the Twenty – Four (24) candidates,  and all registered    voters in the Duta Electoral Area that the District Level Elections in the area have been injuncted”, . 

The statement further stressed  served notice and notice is hereby served that “there will be *NO* Assembly member and Unit Committee member elections in the Duta Electoral Area on Tuesday 19th day of December, 2023.

We are deeply sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you”.

“It is in the interest of the sovereignty of Ghana, integrity and sanctity of public elections in Ghana and collective interest of DUTA ELECTORAL AREA. Please bear with us”, petitioners submitted.
