The Electoral Commission (EC) is to engage in consultations with key stakeholders in society as part of efforts to demystify its operations and bring it closer to the citizenry.

A statement signed by the EC’s Head of Protocol Mrs. Sylvia Annor, on Wednesday, May 29, said the purpose of these consultations was to hear at first-hand what the concerns and issues of key stakeholders are, regarding the Commission and its operations.

“Additionally, the engagements will provide the EC the opportunity to inform stakeholders about its current activities and outlook for the future,” it said.

The statement said the delegation was made up of EC’s officials led by its Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa, Deputy Chairperson in-charge of Corporate Services, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, Deputy Chairperson in-charge of Operations Samuel Tettey, and other Commissioners.

The statement further said the Commission would meet with stakeholders such as the clergy, traditional leaders, former presidents and civil society.

“Already the Commission has visited a number of media houses including Multimedia, Citi FM, Despite Group of Companies, Graphic Communications Group, and the Ghana Journalists Association,” it said.

“Ultimately it is expected that at the end of these consultations, the Commission would have not only opened its doors and operations, but would also have gained tremendously from the insights and experiences of stakeholders.”
