A total of 716 registrants were captured on the first day of the ongoing Limited Voter Registration in the Volta Region.

The region also recorded 10 challenged cases.

These were figures from the Volta Regional Office of the Electoral Commission when our Volta Regional Correspondent, Jones Anlimah, visited the premises of the Commission to observe the ongoing exercise in the Ho Municipality.

The 21-day national exercise is expected to enable Ghanaians who have attained the voting age of 18 years and above but do not have a valid voter identity card since the last registration to obtain one.

A visit to the premises of the Regional Office of the Electoral Commission as the Registration Center for the Ho Municipality revealed that the exercise was going on smoothly.

According to the Municipal office of the Electoral Commission, a rainstorm disrupted the commencement of the exercise.

That notwithstanding, all those who turned up were attended to.

A total of 72 applicants—44 males and 28 females—were registered on the first day of the exercise.

In an interview with GBCNEWS, the Ho Municipal Officer for the Electoral Commission, Nana Oduro Numapau, said the office has put in place a Community rotation mechanism to ensure that people who travel from a distance get the needed attention.

There were Police Personnel at the Centre to ensure order, while the NPP and NDC had their agents also present observing the exercise.

The Volta Regional Director for the Electoral Commission, Mr. Eric Kofi Dzakpasu who didn’t want his voice captured during an interview, said apart from a disruption of the exercise in the form of connectivity challenges on the first day due to a rainstorm in the region, the regional office is yet to receive any major logistical challenges from all the municipal and district registration centers across the region.

He disclosed that a total of 716 applicants with 10 challenged cases were registered on the first day of the exercise across the region.

He also disclosed that there are special and localised arrangements for persons with disabilities to have their turn on arrival.

He was hopeful that the smooth nature of the exercise across the region will continue in the remaining days.
