VRA and partners donate books on AfCFTA to second cycle schools in Eastern Region

The Volta River Authority, VRA has presented books on African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA to selected senior high schools impacted by the Authority’s operations in the Eastern Region.

Presenting the books on behalf of the Chief Executive of VRA, Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, at Akuse, the Director of Finance and Investment, Mr. Paul Seniagya said VRA over 62 years has committed to skills development and had been supporting education in its operational areas to prepare the future leaders of the country.

He said the VRA is keen on education and value addition. “The books provide an overview of the AfCFTA and how independent African economies work towards economic integration.”

He explained that the materials will enrich the knowledge of the students on the African Economy.  

The Lower Manya Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Samuel Tettey stated that VRA through its social corporate responsibility, has been supporting schools in the Eastern Region especially those in the catchment area where the Authority’s two dams; Akosombo and Kpong are located.

He mentioned Scholarships to needy but brilliant students, provision of basic amenities and teaching and learning materials and many others.

He noted that since 2011 about 315 students have benefited from the scholarship programme.

Mr. Tettey expressed gratitude to the VRA for the continuous support to schools in the region.

 

The Director of Research of the Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference, Gerald Ekow Woode, authors of the AfCFTA handbooks said the object of the support is to educate the students who are the future leaders on African Continental Free Trade Area initiative for them to understand what is being done to boost cross border trade and investment and other key development issues in Africa.

The beneficiary schools are; Akuse Methodist Senior Technical School, Manya Krobo Senior High School, Yilo Krobo Senior High School, Asesewa Senior High School and VRA International Schools.

The rest are; Adjena Senior High Technical School, Anum Presby Senior High School, Akwamuman Senior High School, Boso Senior High School, Apeguso Senior High School, Krobo Girls Senior High School, Klo-Agogo Senior High School and Akro Senior High Technical School.
