Anlo Ladies book First Quarter-final Place in Women’s FA Cup

Anloga, Volta Region – Anlo Ladies have booked their first quarter finals place in the 2021/22 Women’s FA Cup competition after defeating Rootz Sistaz 6-5 on penalties at the Anlo Senior High School Park in Anloga.

The game which ended in a 1-1 draw saw both teams scored within 30 minutes in the first half.

Hadizah Mohammed scored the opener in the 16th minute for the home side before Ruby Osei equalized in the 27th minute for the visitors to end the first half.

Both sides kept their composure and was clinical upfront not to concede during the second half which settled the game at a draw before the penalty shoots.

Goalkeeper Mawunyo Avugbe saved the day to give her side the all-important win when she saved the last kick from the opponent’s goalkeeper, Ruth Sackey, after all eleven players took their turn.

This is the first and only Volta Regional Women’s team to have reached the quarter finals of the Women’s FA Cup competition since its inception in 2016.

Their highest has always been the Round of 32. The Team Manager of Anlo Ladies, Francis Hoedzrode who was thrilled at the team’s performance over the weekend is confident the team would make Volta proud and qualify to the semi-finals of the competition.

“The best place we have reached in our previous Women FA Cup has been the Round of 32, and this time we made a very big history and we are poised to pull more surprises to make the region proud” Mr. Francis Hoedzrode said.

Anlo Ladies has now joined the likes of Ampem Dakoa Ladies, Amy Ladies, Police Ladies, Ashtown Ladies, Kumasi Sports Academy, Hasaacas Ladies, and Fosu Royal Ladies to contest for a place in the Semi-finals of the knockout tournament.

The Women’s FA Cup draw is scheduled for Thursday, 31st March 2022.

The Women’s FA Cup tournament is a knockout competition played between women’s team in the Ghana Women’s Premier League and Regional Women’s Division One teams.
