Broadcaster and Chairperson of the Legal Sub-Committee of Accra 2023 African Games, Eva Okyere, has called on the Government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports and members of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to sit at the table to agree for each party to know their boundaries to avoid interferences.

According to her, that is the surest way for the country to escape the long arm of the world football governing body FIFA on the issues of government Interference.

Taking his turn on the GTV Sports+ “Saving our passion” on March 10th, 2020, Chairperson of the Legal Sub-Committee of Accra 2023 African Games, explained that even though FIFA frowns on government’s involvement in the management of the game, the State has a role to play.

“For both parties to be on the same page, there should be some sort of agreement between them for the sake of the development of our game,” she said.

In August 2018 Ghana nearly incurred the fury of FIFA following incidents of government interference in Soccer affairs. The Ghanaian government attempted to disband the then GFA, its national soccer governing body, following a damning investigation that revealed a web of corruption.

Despite the investigation’s grim findings, FIFA insisted that disbanding the then GFA amounts to outside interference in the sport. To avoid a ban, the Ghanaian government halted dissolution of the GFA.

It is on this score that Madam Eva Okyere is calling on the GFA and government and partners to mutually agree on the parameters, so far as football is concerned, with the overall arching benefit to Ghana.
