According to Former GFA President, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, President Kufour never interfered in his work.
Dr. Tamakloe said before he was appointed by then President John Agyekum Kufour, he was given the assurance that he would be given the free hand in the GFA business.
Narrating his experience as the GFA President in a panel discussion on a program dubbed “saving our passion” on GTV Sports+, Dr. Tamakloe said he and the President knew that the position was not easy, but he fought through.
“I remember before President Kufour appointed me he told me that he knows where he sending me is not an easy place but he said Nyaho don’t go and play your old tricks which i said I won’t but kofi I hope you will give me the free will to operate and he promised me he will and he never interfered with my work”
Upon his assumption as the GFA President Dr. Tamakloe said he realised that the whole place was full of what he described as “wolves” but was quick to add that he had a hardworking Sports Minister, the late Kwadwo Baah wiredu and a trusted Sports Journalist at that time Sam Okaitey.
“So I told Okaitey one day that this appointment of people into this office is not good enough that is why they don’t stay there for long and I suggested to him that they should rather elect them than appoint which Okaitey agreed and so did the Minister and the Minister told me to write a memo on it”.
According to Dr. Tamakloe his decision did not sit well with people he described as “wolves” in the GFA so he took them to Court and won the case. Upon winning he was called by Yaw Osafo Marfo who told him to step aside, but, in anger he resigned.
“I don’t know what happened and It got leaked and hell broke loose because I had called for certain things to be done and so the wolves in the association decided to impeach me but I was smart and I took them to court and during the first session I won but the second session of the proceedings I got a hint that it will go in favour of the wolves”
“The then minister Yaw Osafo Marfo called me and he told me to step aside for a while because of the boiling temper of the executives but I got angry and I boldly resigned.” Dr Tamakloe added.
Dr. Tamakloe however indicated that after he left the GFA his decision to elect GFA Presidents was instituted by FIFA.
“The most interesting thing is that after I had left the position FIFA called Nyantakyi’s group and told them to go by the election memo I wrote which is why we have that today”.
