Commissioner of Customs Colonel Kwadwo Damoah has been speaking on his vision for the Ghana Revenue Authority, GRA where he pointed out that good leadership and the availability of resources to equip personnel in their work are critical needs to maximising productivity.

In an exclusive interview with GBC’s Rebecca Ekpe, Col Damoah expressed worry about the perception of corruption within customs, highlighting the need to enforce the ”zero tolerance for corruption” mantra.

”So, I have spoken to all my deputies and my sector command, if there is any evidence of corruption against any of them, I will go strictly according to the legal framework” said Mr. Damoah.

He also said sensitization and education must be continuous as a way of managing the corruption syndrome.

On the issue of disgruntled workers due to stifled promotions and other human resource concerns, Mr. Damoah said some have genuine concerns, however, others have to be provided with explanations, besides, ”promotion these days is done on merit”. Fortunately, am an HR person, so I have come to understand what the issues are”.

Mr. Damoah provided suggestions for a training module for personnel, that in his view would accelerate revenue generation for Ghana. He said this type of capacity building should combine practicality, theory, best practices and staff motivation. Colonel Damoah said ”leadership style is also very critical in motivating staff at the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, GRA to give off their best”.
