President Akufo-Addo has sent a message of hope to China over the outbreak of the Coronavirus.

Overall, 2,118 deaths have been recorded with nearly 75,000 confirmed infections recorded in mainland China. Officials say 16,155 patients have recovered.

President Akufo-Addo said it is unfortunate that China today is battling an outbreak of the deadly COVID-19 virus and trusts that with the tough decisions being implemented to conquer the spread of the virus, the nightmare would be over soon.

“We sympathise with the people of China at this time of great trouble,” the President said.

President Akufo-Addo said he has written to President Xi Jinping to convey to the people of China the solidarity and sympathy of the compassionate people of Ghana and hopes that China will recover from the devastating social and economic impact of the COVID-19 virus.

Regarding the evacuation of students in Wuhan, China, due to the outbreak of coronavirus, the President asked politicians to stop adding oil to already troubled waters and desist from causing fear and panic due to their utterances.

He said an evacuation plan is not ruled out but will only be considered when necessary.

President Akufo-Addo said this when he presented the 2020 State of the Nation Address in Parliament today (Thursday, February 2020) in Accra.

The 2020 State of the Nation Address is the President’s fourth presentation since he assumed office on January 7, 2017.
