Deputy Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, says Parliament has put measures in place to protect MPs against COVID-19.

His comments come after the Minority in Parliament disagreed with a directive by Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, for MPs to show up Tuesday, March 17 to pass a new law to support President Akufo-Addo’s emergency measures to deal with the spread of coronavirus.

President Akufo-Addo met leadership of Parliament on Monday, March 16 as part of measures to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Ghana.

Ghana has reported six confirmed cases between March 12 and 15 with no deaths so far. Health officials say all cases were imported into the country.

But in an interview on GBC’s current affairs programme, ‘Behind the News’, the Deputy Majority Chief Whip said Parliament cannot shut down as it will halt “government business”.
