The General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr. Justice Yankson has warned the public not to self medicate as a preventive measure against contracting the coronavirus.
Speaking at an engagement with the media in Accra, he said there is a growing misconception that chloroquine is an antidote for the virus.
He said the use of the drug has for years been banned in the country.
Dr. Yankson noted that research is still being conducted on the virus and asked the public to consult medical personnel on matters relating to COVID-19.
Dr. Yankson also dispelled the notion that the virus does not thrive in sub-Saharan Africa.
