Court remands 2 Chiefs, 24 youth for rioting at Yong

A Tamale circuit court presided over by Justice William Twumasi has remanded into police custody, 26 suspects who were arrested in Yong Dakpemyill in the Tamale metropolis.

The suspects have been charged with causing unlawful damages to buildings and rioting with offensive weapons.

The 26 include Fuseini Chimsi and Mohammed Chimsi, who are both holding themselves as chiefs of Yong.

The dispute has resulted in intermittent clashes between supporters of the two brothers over several months.

The latest clash occurred on Monday between the two factions. At least one person was injured and a number of houses burnt.

The community remains deserted as women and children have fled the area.

The regional Crime officer, Superintendent of Police Otua Acheampong, disclosed that the suspects are to reappear before the court on the April 17.
