The Eastern Region has recorded 95 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the Districts and Municipalities of the region.

Out of this figure, the Lower Manya Krobo District has recorded 70 cases, followed by Asuogyaman with 12, Fanteakwa North- six, Akuapim North- three, Denkyembour with two, followed by West Akyem and Birim Central with one case each.

In an interview with Radio Ghana in Koforidua, a Public Health Director at the Eastern Regional Health Directorate, Alfred Adomako disclosed, that Lower Manya Krobo Municipality has 69 cases of contact tracing out of its 70 confirmed cases.

The three confirmed cases from Akuapim North are all from travelers, while that of Denkyembour are all clinically suspected patients.

The only one confirmed case from West Akyem emanated from a clinically suspected case, while Birim Central, which also has one confirmed case, was from a traveler. Mr Adomako said one of the confirmed cases in the Greater Accra Region resides at Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality and is being managed, but added that the region has not recorded any death from the 95 confirmed cases.

He, however, disclosed that those who have been affected by the virus are mostly the youth.

Mr Adomako expressed worry about those who discriminate and stigmatize people who have been infected by the disease. He observed that stigmatizing those infected by the disease will go a long way to prevent people from opening up in case they experience the symptoms of Covid-19, a situation he said will defeat the country’s fight against the deadly disease.

He, therefore, appealed to those engaged in such practices to stop.
