The Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA), has reiterated its commitment to sensitise players in the shipping industry as it records giant strides in its operations.

Demurrage for instance is said to have reduced marginally, from $59 million in 2018 to $27 million in 2019.

Speaking at the Seventh Maritime Seminar in Accra, Chief Executive of the Authority, Benonita Bismarck, said achieving this feat has been possible with the involvement of the Media, as they play a critical role in the dissemination of relevant and timely shipping and trade information to Importers, Exporters, Shipping Service Providers among other bodies.

This, she said, has fuelled the periodic training of Journalists to keep them abreast of issues regarding the sector.

She urged media practitioners to continue to play their gate keeping role effectively to promote trade.

President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Roland Affail- Monney, said considering the importance of the shipping industry to the economy, there is the need for Journalists to sharpen their skills and uphold the Journalistic standards in reporting on the sector.
