Reconciliation of the provisional voters register is ongoing as the Electoral Commission (EC) has restored more than seven thousand (7,000) names that were said to be missing in Ashaiman, during the Exhibition, with one hundred and sixty-five (165) more names expected to be added.
Addressing the media at its “Let the Citizen Know” series in Accra, Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensah, said more than forty-four thousand (44,000) names have been added to the register.
She said patronage of the Exhibition increased by more than 1% with 7.9 million Ghanaians verifying their details during the exercise.
According to the Electoral Commission, all 33,367 exhibition centers across the country were operational during the 2020 Exhibition exercise which lasted for 10 days.
Although this year’s exhibition was 10 days as compared to 21 days in 2016, patronage was higher in this year’s exercise.
Chairperson of the EC Jean Mensa said the current register has more than 17 million names.
Madam Jean Mensah said the EC is close to restoring all the missing names in the voters register in areas including Ashaiman.
The EC insists that until the voters register is certified, all figures released are provisional.
Meanwhile, a Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, says the certified voters register will be ready by November 11.
Speaking at the EC’s “Let the Citizen Know” series in Accra, Mr Tettey said until the register is certified, all figures released are provisional.
