The Upper East Regional Manager of the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission, John Naada, has expressed satisfaction at the level of compliance with the five-month ban placed on hunting and capturing of wildlife.
The close season, which came into effect on August 1 and expected to end on December 1, 2020, is in line with the Wildlife convention to curb the decline of wildlife resources in the country and offer respite for animals during their breeding period.
Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana following a visit to some reserves in the Upper East Region, Mr. Naada encouraged persons who patronise grasscutter to verify if Chop Bar Keepers who use the meat for their dishes have valid license issued by the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission.
Mr. Naada said if the bushmeat trade is regularised, it could rake in foreign exchange for the country and called for concerted effort to save wildlife and biodiversity in the country.
