The National Peace Council (NPC) has reminded political parties, especially NDC and NPP, to abide by the Roadmap and Code of Conduct on eradication of all kinds of political vigilantism and election-related violence that they are signatories to.
The Peace Council also urged leadership of both parties to immediately call their supporters to order to avoid clashes before and after the election.
These were contained in a communiqué signed by the Chairman of the National Monitoring Committee of the Council, Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, in the wake of recent clashes between supporters of the two parties at Odododiodoo in Accra, leading to some serious injuries.
Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, Maulvi Bin Salih said these acts of violence cast a shadow on the upcoming elections and called on the Police to be more proactive in responding to potential threats to election security.
He asked the youth, who are usually at the center of these clashes, to show patriotism and zealousness in building a peaceful nation.
