A Governance Expert Dr. Eric Oduro-Osae has waded into the argument as to whether to go ahead and name the University of Development Studies, UDS after Former President Jerry John Rawlings even though the former President declined the offer while alive.

According to him, the former President deserves to have UDS named after him.

He therefore agrees with President Akufo Addo on the matter. Dr. Oduro-Osae told Nathaniel Nartey that naming the UDS and other national monuments for him will not mean the former President’s wishes are being disrespected.

Commenting on a request by the General Secretary of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia for President Akufo Addo to make June 4 a public holiday, Dr. Oduro-Osae said only Parliament has the mandate to make that possible.

He called on the NDC to collaborate with government to ensure Former President Rawlings gets a befitting state burial rather than accusing government of trying to hijack the funeral.
