A delegation of the family of late former President, Jerry John Rawlings led by former Diplomat, Ambassador James Victor Gbeho has paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The visit was to officially inform him of the passing of Mr. Rawlings, which occurred at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital a week ago.

Among the delegation were two of Mr. Rawlings’ children, Dr. Zenator Agyemang Rawlings and Kimathi Agyemang Rawlings.

According to Ambassador Gbeho, the family thought it appropriate and respectful, to fulfill what tradition demands to officially inform the Asantehene of his death.

He said government is cooperating with the family regarding the funeral arrangements and will communicate the outcome to him when they finally arrive at a date.

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, in response, recounted how well he related with the late former President.

He said Ghanaians should soberly reflect on the good things Mr. Rawlings did for the country, adding that the death of the former President should unite Ghanaians.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu later signed the book of condolence in honour of the late former President.
