The price of cereals is reported to be going up in the Northern and Upper East Regions due to demand outstripping supply.

The cereals are maize, rice, millet, and soya beans.

Deputy Director of the Savannah Agriculture Research Institute, Prof. Roger Kanton, who disclosed this said the situation is a result of the floods which destroyed several farms this rainy season.

On whether the supplies recorded in previous years are in the buffer storage facilities, Prof. Kanton appealed to the Buffer Stock Management Company to release cereals to stem the price hike, if they have stock.
