Members of the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU), have begun a nationwide strike over poor conditions of service today (January 13).

In an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana, the National Chairman, Ambrose Yao Kwadwodza said, the decision was necessitated by failure of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to conclude negotiations on the demand for better conditions of service.

He said all members except medical and security staff are exempt from strike.

Mr Kwadwodza said TEWU would advise itself if the Commission fails to immediately conclude negotiations on the new Conditions of Service for Unionized Staff of Public Universities before the beginning of the academic year, this month, January 2021.

Mr Kwadwodza however hinted of a meeting with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission tomorrow (January 14), on the issue.
