The National Identification Authority (NIA) will from next month begin the mass issuance of Ghana cards after issuing about 80,000 cards in the selected registration process.
The Ghana card, which was introduced early this year, is to enhance the digitisation of the economy and serve as an e-passport for ECOWAS travel among others.
Even before the mass registration begins, the NIA has been hit with threats of strike by employees over the non-payment of salaries while some have complained of delays in the mass registration which was to begin in May.
Some critics even fear that the new timeline given by the NIA for the mass registration to begin may not be followed through.
