Egypt has sent ten ambulances into Gaza to pick up wounded Palestinians for treatment in Egyptian hospitals.

Medical officials say the ambulances entered the territory at the Rafah crossing, which has been closed for five days over the Eid al-Fitr holiday and the weekend and is due to reopen on Monday.

Five ambulances have been deployed to enter Gaza later, and three Egyptian hospitals are ready to provide treatment.

Officials in Gaza say about 950 people have been wounded in the territory since the start of the conflict last Monday.
