NDC MP in Court for fraud

The Criminal Court Division of the Accra High Court, hearing the case in which the Member of Parliament for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, in the Central Region, Mr. David Vondee, is being tried for fraud, has adjourned hearing to July 21, 2021.

The trial Judge, Justice Maame Ekua Nenskyire, recessed the case after directing prosecution to serve on the Court and the accused MP, disclosures, that is, documents considered to be relevant to the ongoing case.

Mr. Vondee was charged by the office of the Attorney General with allegedly defrauding a private company of $2.4 million and is currently on bail in the sum of ¢2 million.

Justice Maame Ekua Nsenkyire, on Wednesday morning, ordered the Prosecution to file disclosures within two weeks, after said she told the court, there was no proof of service on the docket.

The accused MP also informed the court that he had also not been served disclosures. The court then made the ruling and also directed prosecution to file their witness statements two weeks after service.

The Twifo Atti-Morkwa MP, whose legal representatives were absent in Court on Wednesday July 7, has entered a not guilty plea to two counts of defrauding by pretense contrary to section 131 (1) of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29) and money laundering contrary to section 1(2)(c) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, Act 2020 (Act 1044).

The accused legislator is alleged to have defrauded the complainant one Mr. Kojo Ansah Mensah’s company, Africa REI Ghana Limited of $2.4 million in a fictitious twenty (20) acre land sale contract, between August 2015 and July 2016.

Hearing continues on July 21, 2021.
